On May 31, 2021, Ugochi Daniels was appointed IOM Deputy Director General – Operations, taking office on September 1, 2021. Ugochi Daniels is a senior executive with over twenty-seven years of management experience within donor and United Nations agencies, universities and private sector institutions.

Ugochi Daniels has been named a United Nations (S)Hero for advocating for women’s health needs in humanitarian emergencies. (S)heroes stand up for the vulnerable and fight for human rights, command forces and build coalitions for peace and tackle the world’s toughest challenges. She is proud to be part of a global community that builds partnerships for peace and development to solve global problems. She stands for justice, equality and fairness and believes in the importance of identity and rootedness in the community. She is passionate about advocating for and funding the specific needs of women and girls, especially in humanitarian situations.
Ugochi Daniels’ career with the United Nations spans almost twenty years. Prior to joining IOM, Ugochi Daniels was Chief of Staff at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), covering Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. She also served as United Nations Resident Coordinator and Designated Security Officer in the Islamic Republic of Iran from 2018 to 2020. United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), covering more than seventy countries where UNFPA was responding to emergencies. She was notably assigned to the Philippines (national representative, 2010-2013) and Nepal (Deputy Representative, 2007-2010). Ms. Daniels joined UNFPA in 2002 as Deputy Program Officer for the Africa Youth Alliance (2002-2007), covering Ghana, Tanzania, Botswana and Uganda.
Prior to joining the United Nations, Ms. Daniels was the Monitoring and Evaluation Information Specialist for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission in Nigeria from 1999-2002. also private sector experience, having worked in the information technology, manufacturing and financial services sectors from 1992 to 1999. Ugochi Daniels holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geography, as well as a a postgraduate degree in Information Management for Business Decisions. She is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
